Lubeck continued! On Friday we travelled by train to Hamburg. After surveying the city from the viewing platform at the top of the St Michaels' Church we admired St Pauli with its beautiful organ and pulpit. We were able to walk through the old Elbe tunnel and undertake a comprehensive private boat tour of Hamburg's port before visiting the St Nicholai church memorial and the Town Hall.
Saturday was celebration time - Friendship Force Lubeck were celebrating their 25th birthday on the Passat at Travemunde! A few of us were able to stay on board over night. The celebration commenced with coffee and cake, and a number of speeches. The entertainment then captivated us! The Shanty Chorus "Mowenschiet" ("Gull Shit") sang numerous sea shanties, and then encouraged us to join them!
During and after dinner we were entertained by a talented accordion player and it wasn't long before the Australians and a few others were up dancing - we created quite an impression!
Our departure from Lubeck on Monday morning was a sad affair - it had been a wonderful exchange, with many new friends made. We just hope those boomerangs come back to Adelaide.
